Agave montana grows solitary. It is 90 - 125 centimetres high and 140 to 170 centimetres wide. The yellow to green colored, elliptical, variably arranged leaves are 30 - 40 centimetres long and 15 -17 centimetres wide.
The leaf margins are irregularly toothed. The reddish to dark brown Enddorn is 3 - 5 centimetres long.The green to yellow, numerous flowers are 60 - 70 millimetres long, appear at the top of the inflorescence and form to the tip of the light and variably arranged branches. The flower tube is long at 20 millimetres. The flowering period extends from April to May
